Arno Lechner, MD
Department of Internal Medicine
Dr. Lechner graduated from the Medical University
of Vienna in 1984 and completed his residency in internal medicine
at Salzburg University Hospital. During his residency, he completed
a Fellowship in Microbiology at the University of California in
Los Angeles. Since 1991, he has served as director of the division
of Infectious disease at Salzburg University Hospital and was appointed
assistant director of the Department of Hemostasiology at Salzburg
University Hospital in 1998 and held that position until 2002. Since
2005, he serves as consultant for the institute of microbiology,
hygiene and infectious diseases at Salzburg University Hospital.
Dr. Lechner is a member of several medical societies including the
Austrian Society of Infectious Diseases, Austrian Society of Chemotherapy
and Austrian Society of Travel Medicine. Since 1997, Dr. Lechner
has been a member of the ABS-group, in the competence team for improving
use of antimicrobial agents supported by the Ministry of Health
in Austrian hospitals.
Clinical interests include: the diagnosis, treatment and prevention
of common infectious and tropical diseases including fever, skin
and soft tissue infections, defects in the immune system, chronic
infectious diseases, vaccine prevention, complex pathology involving
drug resistant microorganisms, viral infections and diagnosis and
treatment of thromboembolic disease and blood clotting.
