Dr. Gmeiner obtained his medical degree from the
Medical University of Vienna in 1985 and completed his residency
in general surgery at Hospital of the Merciful Brothers in Salzburg,
AUVA Hospital for Traumatology and Salzburg University Hospital.
He is Board Certified (Facharzt) in General Surgery. During and
after his residency, Dr. Gmeiner completed advanced training programmes
and hospital stays in cholecystectomy, laparoscopic hernia repair
and laparoscopic thoracic duct ligation at the European Surgical
Education Center/Paris, in laparoscopic intestinal surgery at the
European Surgical Institute/Hamburg, in ERCP, stenting and emergency
endoscopy at the University Hospital Hamburg, in struma at Empress
Elisabeth Hospital/Vienna, in liver surgery and pancreas surgery
at Franz Joseph Hospital, in hemorrhoid surgery (longo technique)
at Hospital Schwarzach/ Pongau and in colorectal surgery at the
European Surgical Research Center/Straßburg. Dr. Gmeiner contributes
to international scientific meetings and journals specializing in
general surgery. From 1997 to 2006, he served as consultant (Oberarzt)
at the Department of General Surgery at Salzburg University Hospital.
Clinical interests include: minimal invasive surgery, vein surgery,
pediatric surgery, diagnostic and endoscopic treatment and treatment
